The first result in the Scottish independence referendum has been announced, with most people voting "No" in Clackmannanshire by 54% to 46%.

A total of 19,036 voted to reject independence, with 16,350 voting "Yes".

The turnout was 89%. There were 35,411 votes cast, with 25 rejected ballots.

Results for the rest of Scotland's 32 local authority areas were declared throughout the night, with the final national result expected after 06:30 BST (05:30 GMT) on Friday.

A "Yes" vote in the ballot would end the 307-year-old union between Scotland and the rest of the UK.
