Man arrested after fatal flat fire in Perth

Police investigating a fatal fire at a block of flats in Perth have arrested a 36-year-old man.

One man died as a result of the blaze, which happened in St Catherine's Square on Old High Street shortly before 21:45 on Sunday.

Police Scotland said earlier that the fire was being treated as suspicious.

The man has yet to be formally identified but his next of kin have been made aware. No one else was injured in the incident.

Det Insp Gavin McKinlay said: "I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area of St Catherine's Square just before 22:00 yesterday evening and saw anyone acting suspiciously to get in touch with police."
