Dracula ant: the fastest animal movement on record
You could be forgiven for thinking that the cheetah is the fastest animal in the world. But when it comes to the animal movement, the 'Dracula ant' has the cheetah beaten by a long stretch.
Scientists have discovered that the small tropical insect can snap its mandibles as quickly as 90 meters per second. That's more than 5,000 times the speed of a human's blinking eye.
Professor Andrew Suarez, who led the research at the University of Illinois, explains how they make this rapid movent...and why they are named after a vampire.
