Newport County responded to last week's hammering by Yeovil with a hard-fought win away at Tranmere Rovers,
Fraser Franks' fifth-minute goal was enough for the Exiles to register a third successive away league win.
And it was Franks who ensured Newport held on to the win as he got his body in the way of James Norwood's thunderous effort in injury time.
Newport remain third in League Two but open up a three-point gap to fourth; Tranmere drop a place to 14th.
Newport County manager Mike Flynn told BBC Radio Wales: "I thought the players were absolutely fantastic, even at the end when we had to hang on a bit they defender excellently.
"Let's hope last week was a one off blip because the way we defended today was absolutely exceptional. If we took our clear cut chances we could have won the game by three or four."
