Tom Walsh put Caley ahead but United earned a deserved point

Inverness Caledonian Thistle missed the opportunity to climb to fourth in the Championship after being held to a draw by visitors Dundee United.

Tom Walsh got the home side off the mark when he netted from close range after picking up a Liam Polworth pass.

But United, who dominated possession, levelled in the second half from Billy King's left-footed shot from 18 yards.

Pavol Sanfranko also went close for United, Mark Ridgers forced into two good saves to keep his efforts out.

Post-match reaction:

Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss John Robertson: "It was a tough game. We expected that. We scored a very good goal first half, they scored a very good goal second half. I can't really complain. I think a draw is probably the right result.

"The problem we've got at the moment with the new rules is we are short of players. We've got 13 fit first-team players and the rest are all young kids. What we really need now is replacements, legs in the team that can come on and keep the tempo of the game. We simply don't have that and we won't have that until at least January."

Dundee United manager Robbie Neilson: "I thought we played really well throughout the whole game. We dominated a lot of possession. We passed it really well through the lines. We just lacked that final moment and little bit of quality in front of goal.

"I thought we controlled almost all of the game apart from some counter-attacks where we maybe committed a wee bit too much forward. I'm disappointed not to take three points but I was very pleased with the performance."
