Man Utd v Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves permanent job

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says there is "no doubt" Manchester United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be given the role on a permanent basis.

The Reds face United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday, their first meeting since Solskjaer replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho in December.

The Norwegian has won 11 of his 13 games in charge, only losing to Paris St-Germain in the Champions League.

"He has the quality," said Klopp. "He deserves [the job] 100%."

The German - whose side go into Sunday's match in second place in the table, 14 points ahead of fourth-placed United - added: "Can you imagine one situation when they say 'we are bringing in another manager'? Then a new manager will lose one game and that's not possible.

"He's in charge and there is no doubt he will be the manager next year as well. That's clear."

United have battled into the top four under Solskjaer, picking up 25 points out of a possible 27 in their nine top-flight fixtures since his appointment on 19 December.

They picked up 26 points in their first 17 league games under Mourinho this season - their worst tally at that stage of a campaign since 1990-91.

Just posting to apologise for the city 'fan' who jumps on to these HYS and spouts drivel. Many many lifelong city fans like me wish Klopp and OGS all the best. Great competition benefits everyone. Humility isn't a lack of support and blinkered disrespectful comments are no sign of right, of passion or of intelligence. Fingers crossed for Sunday .

It's not all about Ole! Carrick, McKenna , Alvarez and Phelan deserve credit too. It's a unique set up but, barring the disappointment against PSG and likely European exit soon, it's working wonders for them. The players clearly have a management setup around them that are making them feel confident again... something they had sapped out of them under Mourinho's regime...

The thing is United have installed not just an Manager but a Management Team. A unique club, with unique heritage, requires a unique solution.

Klopp saying what everyone is thinking. Solskjaer has passed very test needed in justifying being the permanent utd manager. Utd fans finally have something to be singing about

I just watched Klopp’s press conference interview and reading some of these idiotic comments on here you could think Klopp said something out of order
All Klopp said was that Ole for what he done in 2 months deserves a chance & in my opinion Jürgen is spot on
What exactly you want Klopp to say?? “No get rid of Ole he is Bollocks”

As a Liverpool fan I've always liked Solskjaer, both as a player and now as a manager. United would be mad not to give him the job. He's brought confidence, organisation and swagger back to this team. Even if that turns out to be a honeymoon period, it must be a risk worth taking.

I'm a MUFC fan. Klopp is a refreshingly nice fellow. So is OGS. Healthy rivalries are the best kind. A bit of banter is good. Anything more is pointless. Nuff said.

Klopp. Good manager. Great taste in music. Building a powerful team. Talks a lot of sense is is rarely disrespectful. And although I cannot bear the thought of 'pool winning the league I have great respect for the man. Man Utd fan.

I'm a Liverpool fan and I think OGS should be given the job! The baby faced assassin! He's doing brilliantly for you. The fact Sir Alex was smiling in the stands should say it all! I'm looking forward to Sunday, it will be a very tough game for both teams xxx

Why the hostility from UTD fans? You have a good guy in charge now who is doing well, and any sane normal person would say he deserves the job, winning and playing the UTD way. You still find a reason to have a go at Klopp and then Liverpool. You need to chill out. Sunday is a 50:50 game as usual, and may the best team win. Nothing wrong with the managers respecting each other.

OGS has done a fantastic job and it would be a travesty if he's not appointed as perm manager. As a Liverpool fan, Sundays game worries me. I'd take a point for sure. A few months ago I'd have expected a comfortable win but not now. Should be a cracker though.

Klopp, Pep, Poch, Ole, Emery, Howe.... It's been a while since we've simply had nice guys in charge. No one's moaning, no ones badgering the refs, don't forget Southgate too.... football is good.
