Newport County midfielder Josh Sheehan and club captain Mark O'Brien have signed new two-year contracts to remain at Rodney Parade until 2021.

O'Brien, who was sent off in the League Two play-off final, is a fan favourite for scoring the goal that completed the Exiles' escape from relegation in 2017.

Newport are in talks with a number of out of contract players, but released Wales midfielder Andrew Crofts.

Defender Dan Butler has also left the club, signing for Peterborough United.

Both Sheehan and O'Brien are pleased to be staying in Wales.

"I'm delighted to extend my stay at Rodney Parade," Sheehan said. "I'm excited."

"I am already feeling confident for the upcoming season... bring it on," O'Brien added.
