Celtic have confirmed the signing of former Southampton forward Jonathan Afolabi on a three-year deal.

The Republic of Ireland youth international, 19, was a free agent after leaving St Mary's.

"Celtic is just a stand-out team for me, they have a great reputation of bringing Academy youngsters through the ranks," he told the club website.external-link

"The club has great facilities, and a great winning mentality, which is what I want to be a part of."

Afolabi attended Celtic's 2-1 extra-time League Cup win over Dunfermline Athletic.

Afterwards, manager Neil Lennon said: "He is one that's a development. He is sort of on the cusp [of first-team reckoning].

"He will come in and train with us and we will get a good look at him over the next few weeks and see what we want to do with him in terms of his progression. He is raw but he has good potential."
