Armagh's attempt to reach an All-Ireland semi-final for the first time in four years was ended by Mayo on Saturday in Longford.

Maria Reilly scored a goal in the first half and Sarah Rowe netted after the break as Mayo won 2-12 to 1-12.

Kelly Mallon's second-half goal briefly had Armagh in front but Fiona Doherty drew Mayo level before Rowe's key goal.

Caroline O'Hanlon, who started at full-forward, scored seven points for the Ulster side.

Mayo will now play Galway who saw off Waterford 1-12 to 2-4.

Armagh and Mayo were knocked out of the championship at the quarter-final stage last year, and it was Mayo made the better start at Pearse Park with Rowe landing a free in the second minute and Grace Kelly quickly doubling the lead.

Armagh didn't find their range until midfielder O'Hanlon, who started at full-forward, scored in the fourth minute.

Mayo scored the next four points, with Sinéad Cafferky, Niamh Kelly, Rachel Kearns and Clodagh McManamon carving out a 0-6 to 0-1 advantage.

After nine minutes the Connacht outfit had six different scorers, but Armagh fought back with points from Aoife McCoy and O'Hanlon.

Mayo went 1-6 to 0-3 ahead when Grace Kelly found the on-rushing Reilly who blasted past Anna Carr in the 15th minute.

Armagh responded with O'Hanlon and Tiarna Grimes reducing the arrears.

There were nine scoreless minutes until Rowe became the first Mayo player to score twice when she tapped over a free in the 26th minute.

Armagh were back to 1-7 to 0-6 behind with Kelly Mallon's first point from a free and Catherine Marley brought it back to a goal before half-time.

O'Hanlon missed a free on the resumption but did score two frees in the 36th minute after Grace Kelly and Rowe had extended Mayo's lead.

Catherine Marley scored her second and then Mallon came up with a stunning 41st-minute goal to give Armagh the lead with a looping shot which nestled in the Mayo net.

Fiona Doherty drew Mayo level again before Rowe scored the key second-half goal, bursting through the cover to finish in the bottom right corner.

Full-back Caldwell got forward to add her scoring touch but that was cancelled out by O'Hanlon to leave a goal between the teams again.

O'Hanlon cut the deficit to just two but a Natasha Gaughan free eased Mayo's worries.
