Wins for Spurs, Palace, Newcastle & Wolves - Watford survive Cardiff fightback

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock to BBC Radio 5 live: “I don’t understand why we have to be the experimental side. Is it because they feel sorry about us? Or feel we are not important?

“But when you have got Andre Marriner stood at the side of me, one of the best referees in the league and we have an official having his first game. You can not tell me Marriner would not have give Deeney a card of some sort. It was a terrible tackle. We do not queue up and surround the referee, it upsets me when I see other teams get away with things.

“He could have pulled out early doors or not put his studs up. It warranted a card. I am disappointed to have an inexperienced referee, at least it gives him practice and is great for his assessors.”

Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart speaking to BBC MOTD: "We defended really well, Tottenham almost gave up with their style of play, it is ironic it comes from Trippier lumping one into the box.

"The performance was far too honest to base our feelings on one moment, they came at us all day on a big pitch. Sometimes you make the wrong decisions and it’s down to me to bail the lads out but Eriksen took his chance well.

"I knew the effort we were putting in we would get deeper and deeper but I’ll never give up and neither will this team. It’s a real sickener to concede late on but we need to build on this.

"There is definite improvement. I joined knowing the defensive unit we had and we have not been solid so far this season we have given chances away but we have been better in the last two games."

Burnley remain in a precarious position after just one win in 11 league matches.

"The idea of a ‘tricky season’ is probably a norm for a club like Burnley," says Clarets boss Sean Dyche.

"Seventh is an incredible finish for this side, there’s games that have got away from us because of us but today it got away from us because of them and their quality. We have only let ourselves down against Palace.

"There has been a lot going on for these players and they are beginning to see through that."

More from Sean Dyche: "Away from home against sides like this you have got to try and model a team that can still get a result.

"I feel for the players because they put a proper shift in today and did the basics well. The last three or four games we are getting back to what we can be, we need more attacking prowess but it is difficult.

"You want to make it difficult, we got a point here at the end last season and you expect long periods of their possession, but we forgave that as long as we are organised, we worked with set pieces, we were unlucky on the breakaway, Ashley Barnes heads over, he was terrific today."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Obviously we are frustrated and disappointed in the outcome but a lot of positives.

"We know it is tough coming to these places. My only gripe is we get done by a whack down the pitch.

"I am pleased they have resorted to that and we made them play longer. Inevitably we didn’t deal with that final moment and they nick a goal.

"There were good signs from the mentality we know we have to win games. There is a resilience and organisation but we are playing a top side – it is difficult to come down here."

Burnley's trip to the capital ended in frustration...

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe to BBC Sport: "We dominated the ball today and made two big mistakes for the goals. Wolves are very good at soaking pressure and hitting on the counter. It was a frustrating afternoon.

"A lot of our build-up play was very good. But the killer instinct wasn't. We didn't create many real clear-cut chances. We've got to be very strong, show big character and come through this bad form.

"Confidence is such a delicate thing. You can't overestimate the importance of losing key individuals [to injury]. But that's no excuse, that's what you have a squad for."

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC Sport: "It was ground out. In the first half I thought we were very good.

"We lost Cheikhou Kouyate in the second half and when he had come off it handed the ascendancy to Leicester. We then had to make certain we worked hard and ground out the victory.

"We did not concede that many chances and the one we did that I thought they would score we had a stroke of fortune.

"Martin Kelly deserves a special mention. To come in with not many games behind him and play like he did, he deserves an enormous pat on the back."

As Warnock says, Madley was reffing his first Premier League match of the season.

Although it wasn't his top-flight debut, having also been in charge of Watford's 2-2 draw against Bournemouth last season. What a coincidence.

In the interests of fairness, it is also worth pointing out Madley isn't a "trainee".

The Yorkshireman has refereed over 100 Championship matches and plenty more Football League and FA Cup games.

I can not understand why we had Andre Marriner as the fourth official and a referee (Andy Madley) who has not refereed a game all season. Unless it's because we are Cardiff and they can say we can have a trainee or something?"
