  1. Thank you and goodbye

    FT: Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

    Oxford win

So it's Oxford who end Cambridge's winning streak and take Varsity honours for 2018.

We hope you have enjoyed this live text commentary here on BBC Sport - we will have more top-notch rugby union action this weekend with live text coverage from the third round of the European Champions Cup.

    Until then, goodbye.

  2. Post update

    Reaction: Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

Oxford captain Dom Waldouck told BBC Sport:

"It was an outstanding effort, it's a special group of players and we had to put in a special performance today.

"Cambridge were a top team and they put us under pressure.

"In these big games it's how you cope with the pressure and we weathered the storm."

  3. Post update

    Reaction: Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

Man of the Match Ben Ransom:

"It's an unreal feeling, the boys really worked hard this year.

"It was a tough first 20 minutes, Cambridge really came flying at us, but it was a great time to get that first try.

"It was very heated in the first half, but I think we built into the game well and, second half, we scored some good tries."

  4. 'Oxford backs far more potent'

    FT: Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

    Brian Moore

Former England hooker on BBC Two

Deserving winners of an entertaining game. They had more options once they got to grips with the Cambridge kicking game and once they got enough ball then their backs were far more potent.

  5. Full-time

    Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

The Dark Blues win the Varsity match for the first time since 2015 as they blow away their big rivals with an excellent second-half performance.

Ben Ransom was the star for the Dark Blues - Dan Barley scored two tries in his side's win as they recovered from 9-3 down with a few minutes left in the first half.

  6. Post update

    Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

Cambridge wheel a scrum inside Oxford territory and concede a penalty.

The Dark Blues kick to touch inside the Cambridge half and champagne corks will be popping in Oxford very soon!

  7. Post update

    Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

We are back under way and Oxford are now marking out time - they clear the ball towards the halfway line as all the replacements get used from both sides.

  8. Post update

    Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

We've had a long stoppage here for an injury to Cambridge's Sam Miller who leaves the field strapped down to a spinal board, but he is moving his hand and waving.

Fingers crossed he is OK, not the way you want to end the Varsity game.

  9. Post update

    Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

    Brian Moore

Former England hooker on BBC Two

On the crowd being around 21,000 at Twickenham:

Not so long ago the army and navy game was dying - so they said each regiment had a bar in the ground or pub nearby so they could meet their friends there at that time.

Loads of people came and the crowds have gone up and up.

They should so the same thing here with each college having a meeting place where you know former colleagues will be there without having to contact anyone or organise things.

  10. Post update

    Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

Cambridge are back up to 15 men, but they know the game is up now.

But fair play to them they are trying to go out with a flourish as they try and carry the ball through the Oxford defence inside the Dark Blue half.

  11. Post update

    Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

    Dan Ramsom

No surprises - Ben Ransom is Man of the Match and wins the Alastair Hignall medal.

  12. Try Oxford 38-16 Cambridge

    Tom Humberstone

Oxford's fly-half Tom Humberstone gets his side's fifth try of the day.

But it was that man Ransom again who set up the attack with a great bit of play - a few phases later Humberstone was able to break through and just dot the ball down under pressure.

He gets up to add two more points with the conversion.

  13. Try Oxford 31-16 Cambridge

    Nick Koster

The skipper Nick Koster gives Cambridge a bit of hope as he uses brute force to go over in the right corner after the Light Blue forwards plough through the Dark Blue defence.

Scrum-half Chris Bell kicks a lovely conversion from the right touchline to add two more, but surely it's too little too late now?

  14. Post update

    Oxford 31-9 Cambridge

    Brian Moore

Former England hooker on BBC Two

You can't fault the Cambridge endeavour, you can't fault their effort levels, but you can fault their tactical options.

  15. Try Oxford 31-9 Cambridge

    Dan Barley

A minute after going a man down, Cambridge's outside hopes of getting back into this after over.

Ransom put the ball on a plate for winger Dan Barley who gets his second score of the day as he goes over easily in the right corner.

It's another great conversion by Tom Humberstone and this game is over.

Dan Barley scores a try for Oxford
  16. Sin-bin

    Oxford 24-9 Cambridge

What a hit from Oxford's Conor Kearns - he melts Cambridge fly-half Matt Phillips with a shuddering tackle.

That's just what the Dark Blue team need to inspire them.

Soon after Ben Ransom blasts down the left wing with a great run - he's held on the floor by Phillips who is sent to the sin bin.

  17. Post update

    Oxford 24-9 Cambridge

    Brian Moore

Former England hooker on BBC Two

That is poor tackling, but it is effectively created by the Oxford full-back.

  18. Post update

    Oxford 24-9 Cambridge

There are some glum faces among the Cambridge ranks, but there is still time for them to do something.

But they need three scores to get back in this, and with 17 minutes to go they need them quickly.

  19. Try Oxford 24-9 Cambridge

    Tom Stileman

    Tom Stileman scores

Winger Tom Stileman goes over in the left corner to get his first Varsity try in four appearances.

But you have to praise Ben Ransom - his footwork was superb to set up the attack which Stileman eventually ended - Man of the Match stuff there from the former Saracens man.

Tom Humberstone kicks a superb conversion to put his side 15 points up.

  20. Post update

    Oxford 17-9 Cambridge

Former Saracens man Ben Ransom shows his class as he skips past three or four Light Blue players and sends Cambridge's defence scrambling.

The dark Blues look like they might get a third try here.....
