Super League: Jordan Abdull scores four as London Broncos see off Wakefield Trinity 42-34

Jordan Abdull scored four of his side's eight tries as London Broncos eventually saw off Wakefield Trinity.

In a game of 14 tries, Abdull's first-half blitz, allied to one from fellow winger Rhys Williams, earned his side a 26-6 half-time lead.

Kieran Dixon crossed twice and Williams added another for a 42-12 lead which would have lifted them off the bottom.

But David Fifita and Mason Caton-Brown both completed doubles as Wakefield crossed four times late on.

Kyle Wood and Ryan Hampshire, who landed five goals, were also on the scoresheet for Trinity.

But Danny Ward's Broncos, for whom Dixon also kicked five goals for an 18-point haul, hung on for their first win since March.

Following 11th-placed Hull KR's defeat at Huddersfield on Friday, and 10th-placed Leeds' loss at home to Castleford the night before, Broncos' win put them level on eight points.

But, against the team they beat in the opening round of the season, they would have to have won by more than 27 points to climb off the bottom.

Abdull's four tries made him the fourth player to perform that feat in Super League this season - but the first not to have been against a team from Humberside.

Blake Austin scored all four in the 63-12 win at Hull on 29 March, Konrad Hurrell did the same for Leeds a week later in a 45-26 defeat at Hull KR and then Kevin Naiqama got a quartet in St Helens' 62-16 win against Hull earlier this month.

London Broncos head coach Danny Ward:

"Overall, I've got to be pleased. I'd have taken that at the start of the day. The first 70 minutes was as good as we've been all year - but I'm still angry about that last 10.

"When you're winning that comfortably with 10 minutes to go, it's human nature that you might just take your foot off the gas a little bit, and then it just takes one little blip to concede.

"I've been happy with how we've been performing. This team is building. We're not going to get carried away though just because we won a game. There are lots of areas we need to fix up.

"Jordan's had a very good game. I wanted him to run with the ball more and take the line on and get his confidence up and we saw that."

Wakefield head coach Chris Chester:

"I feel sorry for the people that turned up to watch that. I don't want to take anything away from London Broncos. They were very good - but we were woeful.

"We just had too many guys that didn't want to get on the ground, too many that wanted to take a few short-cuts in terms of third man in the tackle. We got burned by a much better team.

"Collectively, we've just got to take it on the chin. I'll take some responsibility for some of the changes that we made - but I won't take responsibility for the desire levels that some individuals had out there.

"We said at half-time, if they don't score again we'll win the game but, after Kieran Dixon runs it up the sideline, that's game over."
