Glasgow Warriors centre Huw Jones is likely to miss the rest of Scotland's Six Nations campaign.

It follows news that club-mate Stuart Hogg is struggling to be involved in the tournament again after damaging shoulder ligaments against Ireland.

The 25-year-old Jones suffered knee ligament damage as he earned a 17th cap in Saturday's loss at Murrayfield.

"The injury recovery time would likely be beyond the reaches of the current campaign," Scottish Rugby has stated.

Townsend 'very hopeful' over Hogg injury

Like Jones, Hogg has undergone a scan for his injury, but the governing body has not given a timescale for the 26-year-old's recovery.

Head coach Gregor Townsend had on Wednesday contradicted a newspaper report suggesting Hogg could miss the rest of the season by saying he remained "very hopeful" the full-back could play some part in the Six Nations campaign.

Scottish Rugby stated that he "is now under the joint care of the Glasgow Warriors and Scotland medical teams, with his rehabilitation progress and review ongoing".

However, it stressed that Jones is "unlikely to play any further part" with games to come against France, Wales and England.

Top player like Hogg is injured as a result of a late take out, not spotted by any of the officials. No post match citing . Foul play wins again it seems with no consequence.

As a rugby fan first and foremost, it's a massive shame for the 6 nations that we are losing class players (of any nationality) to injury. Jones, Hogg, Vunipola, Itoje unlikely to play any further part. Bad for the tournament.

I’m almost 40 and pretty out of shape but I’m a proud Scotsman and captained my school team in the late 90s. I can play 7 or 9, a Scottish Bergamasco if you will.

Any more injuries and we'll need to start pulling random people out of the crowd to make up the XV...

Scary to think what England could do to such a weakended side if they're on form and we make as many mistakes as we did against Ireland.

Fingers crossed our key players are fit for the World Cup.

I have an Irish friend who even admits that Hogg was taken out late and cynically. POM clearly drops the shoulder and delivers a low hit to Scotland's key player in what was a must win for Ireland. Hmmm. One commentator called it 'invisible bastardry'. The match officials had a shocker and World rugby needs to wake up and retrospectively punish these reckless hits.

I’m an England fan - O’Mahony definitely took Hogg out , should have been at least Yellow if not Red - game could have turned on that decision with Ireland not scoring first try .

All these injuries are absolutely wrecking Scotland's campaign. And before anyone jumps in saying 'All teams get injuries, deal with it', you need to remember that Scotland have an absolutely tiny number of players to select from in the first place.

Feeling really sorry for Scotland, at first their pack was decimated but now their back line is dropping like flies. They are like England last year but without the depth to at least plug the gaps somewhat. Really can't see anything above a 5th placed finish.

All I'm going to say it's let's weigh up a couple of decisions on taking people out

Hogg taken out with no arms off the ball by O'Mahoney with an elbow to the groin, off injured, no penalty
O'Brien tickled erotically with fingertips down the legs as he backs so far out the ruck, that Johnny Gray can't reach him to clear him out, penalty given for going beyond the ruck

With or without Hoggy and Jones we should beat France in Paris...doesn't mean we will of course. Everyone has possibly moved on but I'm still scratching my head as to why O'Mahoney hasn't been cited; you're unlikely to see a more blatant late and no-arms tackle this season. In typical sour grapes fashion I can't imagine that had it had been Ritchie on Kearney then Ritchie wouldn't have been cited.

Referee, 2 linesmen and TMO missed the foul on Hogg. Thousands of fans in the East stand did not and booed. The whole stadium was booing after the Irish try, who maybe had spotted Hogg demolished and then a gap to kick into. The referee is watching the ball and wondering why the stadium is booing - perhaps would mean something is amiss. Let’s not discuss with the TMO, no need! It’ll be fine.

This 6N is now a write off for Scotland (Hogg won't be back) considering all the promise at the start, dreadful 2nd half against Ireland and with all these key injuries I can't see us winning another game and dreading Twickers - just need to build for the RWC

From 6N contenders - I never bought into the uber optimistic hype/ nonsense - to an injury depleted shadow of the squad we could have fielded. I’ll be watching the remaining 6N fixtures with a heavy heart and a squeaky b*m 🙁

We might as well just pack up the tent now and head off to Japan. It's no longer a case of waiting to see us be competitive at our rip-roaring best....it's now become a case of hopeful damage limitation.

@144 The only thing Hogg has form for is being one of the best players in the Six Nations Championship, year after year. He will be sorely missed by all true rugby fans.

One or two on here putting down HJ. yes he seems to be a bit off the boil at the moment. However it wasn't so long ago he was scoring tries for fun. Hopefully a good break get him and the rest of the injured fit for the WC as this campaign is over.
