Police are investigating three burglaries in Bangor on Saturday.

The incidents happened in Bryansford Meadow, Springhill Avenue and Rosemary Park.

A fourth attempted burglary occurred and the incidents are all being linked by police.

Detective Constable Hughes said: "The first report was made to us around 8pm. It was reported entry had been forced to a house in the Bryansford Meadow area, sometime between 5pm and 7.45pm.

"Damage was caused to glass doors and items of jewellery were reported stolen.

"Shortly after 8.30pm, we received a report of a burglary at a house in the Springhill Avenue area. It was reported entry had been forced to the property around 7.15pm, but the intruder fled when disturbed by the occupant of the house.

"Nothing is believed to have been taken at this stage.

"Around 10.20pm, a burglary at a property in Rosemary Park was reported to us. It’s believed this occurred sometime between 6.30pm and 10.20pm. Damage was caused to a door. A sum of money, including sterling and euros, and an Xbox and PS4 games console were reported stolen.

"A short time later, at 10.44pm, we received a report of an attempted burglary in Springhill Avenue. It’s believe this occurred sometime between 3pm and 10.30pm.

"Damage was reported to have been caused to a door at the property. Nothing was reported stolen."

Detective Constable Hughes is also appealing to home and business owners to protect their properties, and added: "Please ensure that all houses, sheds and garages are secured, particularly during the hours of darkness.

"Do not keep valuables or large amounts of cash in your home, and remember, safes are able to be removed.

"Do not leave any tools/ladders outside which can be used to access your property. Do not answer the door during the hours of darkness unless you are expecting someone or you have a security latch and can check identity first.

"Keep an eye on your property and please report to the police any suspicious callers or vehicles. This includes cold callers or services being offered at inflated prices.

"If you do have CCTV systems, please ensure that they are working, and please look out for elderly/vulnerable neighbours and check on them regularly."
