Residents in a Co Down town could see big changes to their market as the council consult the public on its future.

Bosses at Ards and North Down Borough Council are asking residents in Bangor to give their views on the weekly market that takes place on Wednesdays in the Asda car park.

The survey is an opportunity for the public to express their opinions to aid the council in future planning.

It asks whether residents have visited the current market, what they think it should deliver for the town and what they would want to see from the market.

Options include Artisan food and local produce similar to St George's Market, vintage clothes and goods, and local crafts and makers.

Residents are also being how often the market should run, whether or not it should be all year round and what day is preferable.

It also gives an option for moving the market, and apart from its current location, the survey suggests; the car park opposite Bangor train station, McKee Clock Arena, and Holborn Avenue car park behind Jenny Watts.

A spokeswoman for the council said: "Ards and North Down Borough Council understands that a vibrant local market can contribute to the economic and social health of the town. Bangor market has suffered as both the retail environment and consumer shopping habits have changed over time.

"The survey invites current and potential customers, from Bangor and beyond, to express their views on issues such as the timing and location of the market, as well as to share ideas on the type of market they would like to see and would be keen to actively support.

"We have had a fantastic response to the consultation survey so far, with over 1600 completed surveys returned online. It is clear that there is a strong desire to see a revitalised market for Bangor. We would like to thank everyone who has completed the survey to date.

"The deadline for the survey has been extended to Friday 8 March for anyone who would still like to express their views."
