A driver who allegedly made off at speed from police collided with multiple vehicles when driving against one way traffic in Belfast on Wednesday night.

Police said that they tried to stop the driver of a Black Seat Ibiza around 7.30pm on Wednesday evening, August 14.

But the motorist made off at speed against one way traffic, crashing into multiple vehicles, according to police.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving, no insurance, failing to stop/remain/report and other driving offence.

He remains in custody at this time assisting us with enquiries.

A PSNI spokesman said: "We would ask anyone who witnessed the Black Seat Ibiza being driven in Victoria Street, Marlborough Street, Princes Street or Queens Bridge area of Belfast or who may have dash-cam footage to contact police at Lisburn Road on 101 quoting reference number 1713 of 14/08/19.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
