Two pensioners have been left shocked after youths threw a brick through their car window yesterday.

The couple were on their way home from a chippy when the missile was thrown through the driver's window, injuring the driver and smashing the window.

Sinn Fein’s Jordan Madden called the attack on the Killough Road in Downpatrick "disgraceful behaviour" and asked the community to make a stand.

He said: “I would urge parents whose children are in the area to check what they are doing. You can see from the photos the extent of the damage to the vehicle and how this could have easily been devastating.”

After meeting with the victims this morning, he added: “They are feeling much better now and have recovered from the initial shock. They are still, however, wary and concerned about the possibility of a reoccurrence whether it be themselves or another driver.

“They highlighted the need for the community to stand together against this kind of behaviour and I fully agree this can not continue.”

In response to the incident, with the community in fear that this will “get worse as the summer comes in,” Model Farm Community Association condemned the behaviour.

In a statement released on Facebook they said: "We will be out on Friday alongside the Flying Horse Ward Community Forum and we would ask that everyone form the community come with us to condemn this disgusting behaviour and to show these 'thugs' that our community will NOT stand for this anymore.

“We will NOT be held ransom by these disrespectful kids, we will NOT let them terrorise our community or our residents anymore.

“It's time to make a stand so I really hope to see as much of our amazing community there on Friday bring the kids as well.”
