The man found dead in his Lisburn home has been named by police as Paul Smyth.

The 50-year-old’s body was discovered in the living room of his Coulson Avenue terrace around 8.45pm on Friday night.

Three men and a woman were arrested in connection with the death this morning.

Police have also revealed that Mr Smyth was shot.

PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan said: “Paul was found in his living room at around 8.45pm on Friday night, 21 June.

“Three men aged 49, 32, 28-years-old and a 28-year-old woman have been arrested in the Lisburn area on suspicion of murder.”

The 49-year-old has been released from police custody, but two men and a woman are still being quizzed.

SDLP Lisburn MLA Pat Catney said the local community is in shock following the death.

He added: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man at this very difficult time.

“Police are investigating the circumstances of this death and have made a number of arrests already.

“I would encourage anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area on Friday evening to come forward as soon as possible.”

Local DUP councillor Jonathan Craig said he is “deeply concerned that an incident like this has occurred in Lisburn”.

“This is a huge shock for the estate and a huge shock for Lisburn that this has happened in their midst,” he added.

“We just appeal for anybody who has any information to pass it on to police.

“It’s good to hear they have made arrests, we just wish that they apprehend and bring to justice those who have carried out this evil deed.”

Police said their enquiries are ongoing and have appealed for anyone with information that could be relevant to their murder investigation to contact 101 quoting ref number 1834 of 21/6/19.

DC Corrigan added: “I am appealing for anyone with information that could potentially assist the investigation to please get in touch.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
