A 62-year-old Magilligan prisoner has died.

The Northern Ireland Prison Service said he passed away at hospital today, Friday, August 23.

A spokesperson announced the death this evening.

They said: "The prisoner died in hospital on Friday 23 August. His next of kin have been informed. As with standard procedure, the PSNI , Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have been informed."

Ronnie Armour, Director General of the Northern Ireland Prison Service, added: "On behalf of the Northern Ireland Prison Service, I would like to extend my sympathy to the family of the prisoner.’’
