RUTLAND — The Burr and Burton avenged a loss to Rutland earlier in the season with a 4-0 victory Tuesday afternoon against the Raiders.
BBA started the scoring quickly when Katie Crabtree scored off a penalty corner play with 25:13 left in the first half.
The Bulldogs added on with 9:25 in the first half when Efremia Geralis executed on a penalty stroke.
BBA added two more goals in the closing minutes of the second half. Celsey McMahon scored on an Arden Wojtach assist and Crabtree scored off an assist from McMahon and Riley Callen on a penalty corner.
Hannah Callen made 10 saves for the Bulldogs in goal, while Rutland's Jessica Ebbighausen had four saves.
"This was the Burr and Burton team that we saw at the beginning of the season and that we were missing in the last few games," said BBA coach Barb Miceli. "So many players stepped up in a big way in this game."
Miceli pointed to the play of Hannah Callen in goal and the defensive effort from Geralis, Lola Herzog and Sam Stevenson as crucial to the win.
BBA sits at 6-6 and plays Saint Johnsbury at home on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Bulldogs golf takes fourth
PITTSFORD — Burr and Burton girls golf finished fourth as a team at the Division I state championships at Proctor-Pittsford Country Club on Tuesday.
Grace McDonald had the low score for the Bulldogs, shooting a 99.
Emma Tobin shot a 104, while Grace Sherwood and Kylie Cleanthes shot a 111 and 114 respectively.
The boys championships are set for Thursday at The Quechee Club.
BBA girls first in XC
MANCHESTER — The Burr and Burton girls cross country team came out with a strong effort in its home meet Tuesday, pulling out a team win.
The Bulldogs had 21 points, beating the next best team, Rutland, by 31 points.
BBA's Liara Foley won the girls race with a time of 21 minutes, 51 seconds.
Mount Anthony's Sarah Umphlett was a close second, finishing in 22:41, while teammate Maggie Payne was third with a time of 23:34.
The Bulldogs' Maggie Brown, Grace Cabasco, Lily Birch and Molly Murphy-Major were also top 10 finishers.
On the boys side, Brattleboro was the winning team, with Rutland taking second. BBA and MAU were third and fourth respectively.
The Patriots' Asa Burrows-Crane finished in fifth with a time of 20:54.
The top Bulldog boys finisher was Sean Foley in 13th with a time of 21:35.
Arlington downs Poultney
POULTNEY — The Arlington girls soccer team picked up its second straight win, beating Poultney 5-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Lilith Fuchs scored the first two Eagle goals and Haley Mattison had the final three of the day.
Lilah Ward had pair of assists, while Sidney Herrington picked up one helper.
Amiah Olson played well and earned girl of the game from Arlington coach Aaron Wood.
Denita Moore and Katrina Gordon combined for a shut out in goal for the Eagles.
Blue Devils keeper Kat Scribner had nine saves.
Arlington improves to 7-5 and plays rival Proctor next Tuesday at home.
Cambridge outlasts Bengals
CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. — The Cambridge girls soccer team picked up a 5-3 win Tuesday afternoon against Tamarac.
Vanessa Evans had three goals to lead the Indians.
Evans scored two goals in the first half and was matched by the Bengals.
Lilly Phillips netted a pair and Evans added another to push Cambridge to the win in the second half.
The Indians improve to 8-4 and play Berlin on the road on Thursday.
Mechanicville tops Panthers
HOOSICK, N.Y. — The Hoosick Falls girls soccer team took on Wasaren League foe Mechanicville Tuesday on Senior Night and came out with a 5-0 loss.
Jada Brown had three goals, while Brynn Murphy and Olivia Horan had one apiece for the Red Raiders.
Even in the losing effort, Panthers coach Tom Husser was happy with his team's effort, citing how they had strong chances to score, but just couldn't finish those opportunities.
Maggie Brown had a standout game defensively, according to Husser.
Hoosick Falls goalkeeper Logan Thayne made 17 saves.
The Panthers drop to 6-5 and play Spa Catholic Thursday on the road.
Twin Valley edges Eagles
ARLINGTON — The Arlington boys soccer team fell 2-1 to Twin Valley Tuesday at Werner Field.
Dominic Whalen scored the lone goal for the Eagles.
Arlington is 8-3-1 on the year and hosts Rivendell on Friday.
Panthers lose in OT
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. — The Hoosick Falls field hockey team dropped a heartbreaker, falling to Glens Falls 2-1 in overtime Tuesday afternoon.
The Indians jumped on the board first when Jeanne Richards scored with 8:54 to play in the first half.
The Panthers answered early in the second half when Emma McCart scored on a Catherine Kennedy assist and the score remained 1-1 through the end of regulation.
With 3:53 remaining in the overtime period, Haylee Girard scored the game-winner for Glens Falls.
Cassidy Harrington had 18 saves for the Indians, while Hoosick Falls' Zoe Gress had 11 saves.
The Panthers drop to 10-3 and play Granville on Saturday at Schuylerville High School.
Proctor slows down LTS
PROCTOR — The Long Trail girls soccer team ran into a high-powered Proctor attack, losing 7-0 Tuesday afternoon.
LTS played the Phantoms even for much of the first half, but Proctor broke through for three goals in the final 10 minutes of the half.
The Phantoms carried the momentum into the second half, scoring three more times early after play resumed.
The Mountain Lions drop to 3-9 and play Poultney on Friday at home.
