At last week's Western Massachusetts cross-country championships, Berkshire County saw two team champions, a team runner-up, and 12 individual qualifiers for the state meet.

Those 12, along with the Mount Greylock boys and girls teams, and the Lenox girls team will return to Stanley Park at Westfield State University for the second straight weekend.

The MIAA state cross-country championships begin at 11 a.m. today.

The boys will race first, beginning with the Division I race at 11. That contest will feature only Taconic junior Jacob Paris.

At 11:40 a.m., the boys D-II race will commence, and most eyes will be on Western Mass. champion Mount Greylock. The Mounties picked up their ninth consecutive sectional title last week, but with a senior-laden top seven, the state meet is a definite focus for coach Scott Burdick's crew.

Greylock will likely compete with Jesse Seid, Josh Cheung, Jacob Fink, Oliver Swabey, Theo Sandstrom, Jakin Miller and Charlie McWeeny.

Joining them will be the Lenox duo of Colin Young and Max Adam, Monument Mountain's Peter LaRochelle and Mount Everett's Grayson Duval.

The D-I girls will race next at 12:20 p.m. The Wahconah girls were a few points shy of sending their whole crew to states, but still qualified four runners. Seniors Gabby and Danni Orlando will wrap up their careers, along with teammates Haley Crosier and Alexis Henderson. The top Berkshire finisher in the Western Mass. D-I race, Cami Diehl of Pittsfield, will also compete.

Berkshire County fans should be zeroing in on the 1 p.m. race, which will feature the D-II girls, including defending state champion Mount Greylock.

The Mounties have some new faces and a new coach in Hilary Greene, but after capturing the sectional title for the second straight year, a state repeat could be next on the docket.

The Mounties will travel with a roster of Josie Smith, Jackie Wells, Margo Smith, Hazel Scullin, Ainsley Abel, Miriam Bakija, Juliet Kornell, Lily McDermott, Sarah Polumbo and Kate Swann.

Western Mass. runner up Lenox will send a full roster as well. The Millionaires were two points away from knocking off the Mounties last week. Lenox's roster will include Ava Bachman, Chloe Doyle, Grace Elliot, Ellen Huth, Marion Huth, Jessie Scrimo, Maggie Sorrentino, Sophia Tisdale, Audrey Touloukian and Sydney Wilk.

The D-II race will also feature Lee's Brianna Kelly, and be the final outing for Monument Mountain senior Grace Phair.
