Live Nation to Exclusively Book Observatory Venues in Southern California
Live Nation has announced that it will exclusively book the Observatory clubs in Santa Ana and San Diego, Calif.
Live Nation has announced that it will exclusively book the Observatory clubs in Santa Ana, Calif. and San Diego. The Observatory in Santa Ana features a roughly 1,000-capacity club and a 300-space called the Constellation Room. The Observatory North Park in San Diego is a historic theater built in 1929 that can be configured for an audience of 1,100.
“With long histories of hosting intimate shows with top talent, and positioning in vibrant music markets with very large population bases, we look forward to growing each Observatory as must-play venues in their respective markets,” said Ben Weeden, COO of Live Nation Clubs & Theatres division in a release.
Created in 2012 out of the ashes of the Galaxy nightclub, the Observatory in Santa Ana was founded by Jon Reiser, who had previously booked Costa Mesa’s once legendary and now-defunct indie club Detroit Bar. The venue’s former booker Jeff Shuman, who joined AEG in 2015 and had booked the Observatory, will stay with AEG where he books several venue and programs the company’s festival series in Long Beach, California.

“Live Nation brings the equity and experience to continue growing these venues,” said Courtney Dubar, managing member of the Observatory in a release. “This agreement is a win-win for concertgoers in both markets and all the artists coming to town.”
Live Nation’s partnership with the Observatory venues comes on the heels of their announcement to also exclusively book the historic Majestic Ventura Theater in Southern California. In the region, Live Nation also operates the House of Blues Anaheim and San Diego, The Wiltern, Fox Riverside, Riverside Municipal Auditorium and the Hollywood Palladium.
“As we continue to grow our venue portfolio throughout Southern California, we’re able to provide artists with even more stages to connect with their fans; and both Observatory venues have a lot to offer,” added Weeden.
