Great news for salsa lovers and movie junkies: Concord Music will release its first feature-film soundtrack comprised of all Fania artists for the upcoming movie Shine, Billboard can exclusively reveal.
This is their first joint venture to derive from Concord’s recent acquisition of Fania Records and Publishing, with its approximately 19,000 master recordings and 8,000 compositions from Codigo Entertainment, announced in July.
Directed by Anthony Nardolillo, Shine tells the story of brothers Ralphi and Junior, once New York City’s best salsa dancers, who are reunited years after the death of their father, on opposing ends of gentrification. The inspirational film, according to the official website, is “about family, community, culture, and standing up for what you believe in.”
The movie’s lively soundtrack will feature music by Fania, aligning perfectly with Concord Music’s efforts to grow their newly formed film and television production department.
Featuring 12 salsa songs, from Willie Colon’s “El Malo” to “Salsa y Sabor” by Tito Puente, Shine the Soundtrack will be released on Oct. 5 — the same day the movie hits theaters — and is available on CD on Nov. 16.
