A new eye hospital could be opened in Wolverhampton if planners give the go-ahead.

SpaMedica has submitted plans to the City of Wolverhampton Council to convert offices in Fairfax House, Pendeford Business Park into a clinic.

If the scheme is granted, the clinic will serve up to 50 patients per day and creating around 70 jobs.

A new eye hospital could be opened in Pendeford Business Park in Wolverhampton.

The company is an NHS partner and currently operates across the north West, Yorkshire, Midlands and south east treating a range of eye disorders including cataracts and carries out more than 25,000 surgeries a year.

In the application, agents Fisher German said: "There are significant benefits to having a SpaMedica hospital located nearby with dedicated modern eye facilities, operating with efficiency at a very high success rate.

"This significantly reduces referral to treat times from the NHS average of 126 days to 24 days.

"It will create a range of skilled and specialist jobs with a minimum of 12 clinical staff and then 58 regional administrative staff.

"The clinical staff would include ophthalmologists, a clinic manager, specialist nurses, medical receptionists and a driver.

"Regional administrative staff would work in areas such as human resources, finance, patient contact, IT support and management at various levels including high level managers.

"The facility will support hospitals across the Midlands and southern region administratively whilst also treating up to a maximum of 50 patients per day.

"These will only comprise pre-booked day cases with no overnight stays or walk-in/emergency facilities.

"The proposed hours of operation will be from 7.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday."

It added: "The site for this SpaMedica hospital is located three miles to the north-west of the town centre of Wolverhampton in Pendeford within a high-quality employment area.

"Fairfax House lies within 100m of a bus stop on Overstrand and within three miles of Wolverhampton Train Station.

"It benefits from on-site parking alongside easy access to a range of frequent public transport links and the wider strategic road network."
