Fire crews raced to the scene of a 'house fire' in Wolverhampton - only to find it was a hoax call.

Firefighters from Wolverhampton and Tettenhall were scrambled to Bhylls Lane this afternoon (Wednesday, July 31).

But when they arrived at 1.56pm, they realised there was no blaze to put out.

A spokesman from Tettenhall Fire Station later took to Twitter to share their frustration.

They posted: "Not amused to say the least! Two fire appliances responding on blue lights for no reason, wasting resources."

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman added: "This is not just a waste of time and resources, stopping us from attending other emergencies, but it's also against the law."

The maximum penalty imposed for making hoax calls to 999 is up to six months in prison or a fine of £5,000.
