A man had to be cut free from a vehicle following a three car pile-up on the Lichfield Road in Walsall.

Emergency services swooped to the scene following the smash that happened at around 12.27pm today (May 21).

The fire service cut free an elderly man that was trapped by his injuries.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance service confirmed that a man had been taken to Walsall Manor Hospital as a precaution after he was treated at the scene for injuries not believed to be serious.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said that they were called to the scene by the police. Two fire engines with a total of nine firefighters attended and an elderly man who was trapped by his injuries was freed from a car using cutting gear.
