Medics rushed a man to hospital after he was shot in the leg next to a Wolverhampton canal ridge.

West Midlands Police said the victim, aged in his 20s, was gunned down close to the Shropshire Union Canal at around 6.40pm on Thursday, May 28.

A nearby resident told BlackCountryLive that 14 police cars raced to the shooting scene in Wayside, Pendeford, shortly after the attack.

No arrests have been made but urgent enquires to locate the gunman are ongoing, a spokesman for the force said.

A spokesman for the police said: "We are investigating after a man was shot in the leg on Wayside, Pendeford, Wolverhampton at 6.40pm yesterday (May 28).

"A man in his 20s was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening or changing.

"Investigations are under way to establish the circumstances.

"We are appealing for anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact us on 101 or via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk, quoting crime reference number 20WV/122884H/20.

"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service also confirmed that they sent a number of resources to the site.

They added: "We were called to Reapers Walk, Pendeford, to reports of a gunshot incident at 6.45pm on Thursday, May 25.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended.

"On arrival, we discovered one patient – a man – who has suffered a gunshot injury. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening and was taken to hospital."
