Officers outsmarted a suspected burglar who tried to evade capture by hiding in a loft.

Police were called to Swinford Road in Wolverhampton after a man was spotted climbing through a smashed window of a house.

The force and a sniffer dog stormed the scene just after 10.45pm yesterday (May 13), but found no signs of an intruder.

A further search led the team to a loft after finding what appeared to be new scuff marks near the hatch.

Officers found a man at the far end wrapped up in the insulation material.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody for questioning.

DC Vicky Robey, from force CID, said: "We don't play hide and seek... we just do seek. There was no immediate sign of an intruder but our officers were determined to ensure the household was safe.

"Even though it wasn't obvious to the naked eye, they managed to find the suspect wrapped up in lagging. There really is no hiding place from us."
