Top-of-the-range steering wheels and interior parts have been stripped from luxury BMWs during a spate of thefts in Wolverhampton, it has been revealed.

West Midlands Police has issued a warning after the four cars – including an X5, 420D and a 521I – were ripped of its steering wheel and centre consoles on May 23 and May 24.

It is not known if the thefts are linked but officers from the Tettenhall Team have visited the victims and are trawling through CCTV in the area.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101, a spokesman for the force said.

Many crooks steal these items to remove and sell the airbags, but it has been suggested that these were stolen to sell as 'complete steering wheels.'
