Birmingham is braced for thunderstorms this week as a weather blast sweeps the city - washing away the Easter weekend heatwave.

Temperatures hit 25C in some parts of the country this weekend, as Brits enjoyed a welcome four-day break from work.

While Brits were out of the office, many took to beer gardens to enjoy themselves as the weather sweltered.

The Met Office last night confirmed it was the hottest Easter Monday on RECORD - in each of the four countries.

But, sadly, it won't last in Birmingham, with a dry, sunny and warm today turning unsettled tomorrow (April 24).

The mercury will hit 23C on Tuesday, and it will be another fine, dry and sunny day for many.

It will feel warm in the sunshine, although it will be on the breezy side.

After a fine end to the day, it will be mostly dry with clear spells overnight.

Some low cloud may drift in from the east to give some hill fog on Wednesday, and this is when the Met Office is forecasting a dramatic shift.

The agency warns: "After a bright start, outbreaks of rain, heavy and possibly thundery, will move north across all parts during the afternoon."

Thankfully, it will become brighter with scattered showers following later and it is set to feel fresher.

The maximum temperature tomorrow (April 24) will hit 19C before it stays unsettled with further heavy and thundery showers on Thursday and Friday.

Possibly a spell of wet and windy weather arriving from the west on Saturday.

Next weekend could be very unsettled, with often heavy rain and the risk of gales, especially in the west and southwest.

Thunder and hail are likely at times and temperatures will mainly be on the cold side of average.

Thereafter, for the remainder of April and into early May, unsettled conditions are likely to dominate, with a chance of showers or longer spells of rain and some periods of stronger winds, especially in the west and southwest.

Whilst some rain is expected at times, there could be a shift towards more settled conditions later.

Temperatures will most likely be near normal in the west, and slightly warmer than the seasonal average in the south and southeast.
