Members of the public are being invited to find out their blood type at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital tomorrow.

You'll be able to register as a new blood donor, discover your likely blood type and book your first appointment to donate blood.

The event will be open to staff and the public between 10:30am and 2:30pm on Wednesday August 21 in the atrium.

Around 135,000 new blood donors are needed each year to replace those who can no longer donate and every potential donation could save up to three lives.

NHS Blood and Transplant especially needs new donors with the O negative and Ro types, although there's always a demand for all blood types.

You will have a finger prick test which gives a likely indication of your blood type.

You will then be invited to donate at your nearest blood donor centre or session.

There are 23 dedicated blood donor centres in England, which come equipped with free Wifi - Birmingham's can be found on the 2nd Floor, 65 New Street, B2 4DU.

Donor centres are bright and modern venues with free Wifi.

Blood is also collected in community venues and you can find your nearest on the Blood Donation website .
