A drunk couple verbally abused a mother and daughter on a Birmingham-bound flight - because they complained about their loud music.

Kayleigh Brown, 33, and Tasfa White, 35, hurled abuse saying:  "f*** you, go suck your mum, dad and dead nan you fat b**** and ‘you ugly f*****" to the terrified pair during the Flybe flight on March 2.

Mr John Weston, prosecuting, said the flight from Amsterdam to Birmingham had been delayed for three hours and Brown and White had sought refuge in an Irish bar.

He said they sat behind the mother and daughter on the flight when the abuse began.

He said the pair “had complained to the defendant Miss Brown that she was playing her music too loudly."

"At this point both mother and daughter were exposed to a torrent of abuse which lasted for around 15 minutes," he added."

They were then threatened with ‘getting them’ once they had got off the plane.

"Both mother and daughter were very distressed and in tears and had to be moved to the back of the plane,” Mr Weston said.

Police were called and the couple were led off the plane. White then resisted arrest as he obstructed a police officer.

Both appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Mr Shabeer Qureshi, defending, said both White and Brown’s actions were ‘out of character.’

He said: “They would like to apologise for behaving like they did towards them. It was totally wrong and they are sorry.

"There was a delayed flight of three hours and they did what many other passengers did and went in to the bar to kill time.

"But the alcohol they drink did affect their judgement and actions. They realise their actions were totally inappropriate though they didn’t abuse any other passengers on the flight or air crew staff.

"They are a couple who run a successful business together and their actions are far removed from how they act on a day to day basis.”

The couple both pleaded guilty to entering an aircraft when drunk and guilty to causing distress by using threatening words and abusive behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

White, from Whitehall Road, Small Heath, had also previously pleaded guilty to a charge of resisting a constable in the execution of his duty.

Sentencing White and Brown District Judge David Robinson said: "You subjected two passengers to a tirade of abuse and vile insults and in one case a veiled threat.

"This was a confined environment and took place in front of a large number of people on an aircraft."

Both Brown and White were handed a one year community order with a 10 day rehabilitation and  requirement to address drink and anger issues.

Brown, of Lapworth Drive, Sutton Coldfield was ordered to carry out 100 hours community service and White 120 hours.

Both were fined £270 each, told to pay £200 compensation each to the victims and ordered to pay £155 in costs with an £85 victim surcharge making £710 in total.
