'They were a sweet couple - we hadn't seen them for weeks'

Another neighbour said:

They were a sweet couple but kept themselves to themselves.

We haven’t been living here that long and only knew them to say hello to.

They didn’t come out of their house much at all and I haven’t seen them for weeks to be honest.

Police were here yesterday.

Resident pays tribute to man and woman found dead

Grandmother Zahida Parveen lives near the house where the man and woman were found. She paid tribute to them and said she was devastated. She said:

They were very much in love, there was no fighting, they were very nice, quiet people. I’m so upset.

A doctor knocked on my door yesterday because there was no answer. He went and police turned up.

I’ve been away at a relative’s house after a death so I haven’t been here for two weeks. I knocked on their door three times but there was no answer.

Police tape in street is the only sign of double tragedy

Police tape in the street appears to be the only sign of the sad scenes that unfolded here yesterday afternoon.

The identities of the man and woman who died have not been revealed and are unlikely to be so until any inquest is opened by the Birmingham coroner.

Up to six police cars at the scene last night

St Paul’s Road is quiet residential street between Moseley Road and Ladypool Road in an area of the city known as the Balti Triangle.

It consists of mainly terraced houses with Pickwick Park situated opposite Clifton Primary School.Sridhar Ramachandran, dad-of-two, told us:

There were five or six police cars here at around 6.30pm when I got home last night. The house three doors down, by the hedges, had police tape all over. I’m not sure what happened, I’m sorry.

When told two people were dead in the address, the dad added:

Really? That’s terrible. I didn’t know them as I have not long moved in. That’s really shocking.

Residents stunned by double death in tight-knit community

A dad-of-two, who lives in Hertford Street which adjoins St Paul’s Road, told BirminghamLive:

We did not see anything yesterday. That’s crazy. We know everybody around here, it’s a right community.

I didn’t see police or an ambulance. I work just around the corner and I’m sure it would have been announced during Friday prayers yesterday. I can’t believe it.”
