The Midlands has been battered by more rain today - after torrential downpours left three people trapped in a car and some roads covered in water.

Video sent to BirminghamLive showed drivers ploughing through heavy standing water in Dogpool Lane, Stirchley, this morning.

And Environment Agency manager Dave Throup said five centimetres of rain fell in Solihull overnight, with up to three centimetres elsewhere.

Train services were affected with the southbound line blocked by flooding between Whitlocks End and Stratford-upon-Avon. Buses were replacing trains.

The latest problems follow several days of torrential rain. Pennerley in Shropshire was the wettest spot in the UK on Wednesday, with almost four centimetres of rain falling.

And three people were rescued by fire crews from a car stuck in a ford at Middleton, near Tamworth, just after 10pm last night.

Flooding still causing problems

Fortunately, the occupants of this car managed to get out in time.

We’ve responded to reports of a Vehicle stranded in flood water as the caller was unsure if there were any occupants in the vehicle. Thankfully there was no one inside. Car will be left in situ for recovery once the flood water has subsided. pic.twitter.com/Jl5BbjFr7i
