Police are today still hunting a sex attacker who escaped from a custody van in the Coleshill area of Warwickshire on Thursday night.

Kamil Malag was set to return to jail after an appeal to slash his jail term was rejected on Thursday (Feb 21).

But he escaped and search teams are now desperately trying to find the fugitive.

Here's everything we know so far about the incident.

What happened?

Kamil Malag escaped as he was being transported to HMP Hewell, Redditch, by a 'security team' on Thursday evening (Feb 21).

The 36-year-old was returning from Nottingham Magistrates Court where he had been serving a 15-week jail term for sexual assault, which he appealed against.

It was rejected and he was told to finish his sentence at the Redditch prison.

Lichfield Road, Coleshill

Where did it happen?

Malag escaped from custody at around 7.15pm on Lichfield Road, Coleshill, near to junction 9 of the M42 and by the entrance of Hams Hall.

How did he escape?

Both Warwickshire Police and the Home office won't confirm how Malag escaped. Warwickshire Police said the incident is 'still subject to investigation.'

Where do police think Malag may be?

Police search teams are desperately "targeting" areas Malag is linked to, including Handsworth, Warely and Smethwick as the manhunt continues.

Officers from Warwickshire Police confirmed the offender's last known address was in Smethwick, where enquiries are being made.

What does he look like?

He is described as white, around 6ft tall, of medium build and with a gold tooth.

He is marked with two tattoos on his neck, one of which says 'Tanesha'.

Police added that he has receding dark brown hair that is balding on top and brown eyes.

Malag is believed to have been wearing blue jeans, a yellow t-shirt and grey trainers when he escaped.

What have the police said?

Detective Sergeant Adam Clifford, from Warwickshire Police, said: "We are appealing for the public's help to find Kamil Malag, and would urge anyone who has seen him or has any information as to his whereabouts to please get in touch."

What have the Home Office said?
