A city street is in mourning after a "sweet and loving couple" were found dead.

The man and woman, both in their 70s, were discovered at a house  in Balsall Heath on Friday afternoon, June 14.

West Midlands Police officers were called out following concerns from a doctor who, having turned up for an appointment, didn't get a response at their home in St Paul's Road.

Officers sealed off the property after discovering the couple dead inside.

Neighbour Zahida Parveen paid tribute to them.

The devastated grandmother said: "They were very much in love, there was no fighting, they were very nice, quiet people. I’m so upset.

"A doctor knocked on my door yesterday, June 14, because there was no answer. He went and police turned up.

"I’ve been away at a relative’s house after a death so I haven’t been here for two weeks.

"I knocked on their door three times but there was no answer.

"I'm still so upset. It's very sad."

Another neighbour added: "They were a sweet couple but kept themselves to themselves.

"I haven’t been living here that long and only knew them to say hello to.

"They didn’t come out of their house much at all and I haven’t seen them for weeks to be honest. Police were here yesterday."

Residents on St Paul's Road reported seeing up to six police cars turn up at around 2.20pm on Friday.

The street consists of mainly terraced houses with Pickwick Park and Clifton Primary School also situated on St Paul's Road.

Dad-of-two Sridhar Ramachandran said: "There were five or six police cars here at around 6.30pm.

"That was when I got home last night. The house had police tape all over."
