Two teens were subjected to a frightening knifepoint robbery by two men after their phones.

The incident took place in Perry Common Road at the junction of Buxton Road in Erdington on Monday (February 18) at around 8.30am.

Two men in a grey Ford car approached two teens – one 16, the other 17 – as they were on their way to play football in Kingstanding, made threats they would stab them, showed them a knife and demanded their phones.

One of the youngster’s mums, Jane Gaskin, said: “They were walking down Buxton Road around 8.30am on Monday and these two guys were shouting stuff at them. They were at the corner of Perry Common Road and Buxton Road and were going to meet a friend.

“They first shouted ‘you owe us money’. One got out and said ‘what have you got’. They told them they had nothing.

“They snatched one phone out of my son’s friend’s hand.

“There was a lad sitting in the car and he had got a knife and he was showing it to them.

“The one who was out of the car said: ‘give us your phone or I’m going to stab you’. He handed his phone over.

“My son had a Cubot phone and his friend had another Android phone.

“They went and met their friend and used his phone to call the police.

“My sister called me as I was up Hawthorn Road and I didn’t know if they had been hurt or not.

“They were in shock and said ‘has this really just happened?’ It’s not every day you get a knife pulled on you.

“The police came out and took statements and said it wasn’t just my son there had been quite a few done that same morning.

“My son has been asked to come and look at videos.

“They were two white lads, in their 20s one was wearing a grey overall with orange writing and the other was wearing a black hoody.

“They were in a grey three-door car which they thought was a small Ford.

“My niece is now trying to raise money to get them both a new phone.”
