People at the University of Worcester are being offered extra support.

It comes as the search continues for one of its students who's gone missing during freshers' week.

Thomas Jones, 18, was last seen at approximately 3:30am on Wednesday morning (19 September) close to the river at Worcester Racecourse.

Thomas is described as white, approximately 5'5" tall, of slim build, with short mousy brown hair and grey/green eyes.

He is believed to have been wearing pale coloured jeans, a navy blue woollen zip-up Lacoste top and green shoes.

Ross Renton, Pro Vice Chancellor Students, University of Worcester, told the BBC : "We're a close knit community here at Worcester and our thoughts are with Tom's family.

"We're doing everything we can to help and it's one of those things, we're pulling together as a community."

Detective Inspector Tony Garner from West Mercia Police said: "Thomas hasn't been seen or heard from since the early hours of Wednesday morning and given that he was last seen close to the river, we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

"This is extremely out of character for Thomas and he is new to the area, having only moved to Worcester on Sunday to commence university.

"We ask that anyone who may have seen him or has any information as to Thomas' whereabouts call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 431s of 19 September."
