Former Birmingham City scouting consultant Ewan Chester has not been contacted about returning to Glasgow Rangers, BirminghamLive understands.

It was claimed yesterday that the Scot had been brought back to Ibrox to help identify talent for boss Steven Gerrard.

Chester, was a key part of the set-up which enjoyed such success in the 1990s, when the Gers won nine Scottish titles in succession built around stellar talents like Gennaro Gattuso.

After that he spent time at Norwich and Brighton and then returned to Blues towards the end of Gary Rowett’s time at the club and Gianfranco Zola was there.

That saw players like Kerim Frei, Emilio Nsue, Greg Stewart and Cheick Keita come to St Andrew’s as owners Trillion Trophy Asia began their investment in Birmingham .

Chester moved on once Harry Redknapp took over and is thought to be looking for another role in the game.

However, the reports which suggested he is back at Ibrox are thought to be incorrect with no contact between the club and Chester at this stage.

He has, though, been seen at games recently alongside the former management team of Walter Smith and Archie Knox.

Stewart is now thought to be interesting Rangers . He is a free agent in the summer when his contract with Blues comes to an end.
