Pep Clotet remains the favourite with the bookies to be the next Birmingham City head coach.

Blues are looking to fill the vacancy after they sacked Garry Monk earlier this week.

The move sent shockwaves through the Blues fanbase and now the board are looking for the right man to fill the void.

A statement said: “It is our intention to drive the club forward and challenge for promotion.

“As part of an overall review of club operations, we will also seek to enhance our recruitment and scouting strategy.”

Monk’s assistant Pep Clotet has been installed as head coach in a caretaker role and the remainder of the backroom staff – James Beattie, Darryl Flahavan, Sean Rush and Ryan Needs – remain in place for now.

Many feel that it will be Clotet who is given the chance to guide Blues in the opening stages of the season.

Bookies have however drawn up a long list of the likely and less likely candidates to be considered for the role.

Among them is former Blues midfielder, Aliou Cisse.

The Senegal national team boss played 36 times for Blues between 2002-2004 and is carving out a very credible reputation for his country.

At 14-1 though, it's fair to say the bookies see him as an outsider.
