West Brom’s defending hasn’t always instilled confidence in fans.

It certainly didn’t in the opening stages of this badly-needed Villa Park victory.

Yet the Baggies deserve huge credit for registering a fourth successive away clean sheet - and in such a partisan atmosphere.

Not since April 2002, in the days of Gary Megson and when Baggies boss Darren Moore was a regular in the team, have Albion managed that feat.

Moore clearly has faith in his backline. He set up his team to do nothing more than defend in the second half.

He backed them to get the job done and the players delivered in unanimous fashion.

Save for Jake Livermore’s clearance off the line and a late John McGinn effort, that the returning Sam Johnstone was more than equal to, West Brom saw out the game in relative comfort.

In the words of Sir Alex, attack wins you games, defence wins you titles.

West Brom are developing a habit of shutting out opponents, especially on the road, that could just take them all the way. Watch the video at the top for Paul Suart's verdict.
