Doherty here to stay

Matt Doherty’s season for Wolverhampton Wanderers could hardly be going any better.

The 27-year-old is enjoying an outstanding debut campaign in the Premier League, taking the step up to the highest level well in his stride.

Doherty has long been one of Wolves’ most consistent performers, but under Nuno Espirito Santo he has reached another level, being moulded into one of the best wing-backs in the top flight.

He helped Wolves to an FA Cup quarter final against Manchester United at the weekend, setting up Ivan Cavaleiro’s winner against Bristol City.

That took Doherty’s tally to six assists for the campaign – on top of six goals – and such fine form inevitably attracts the attention of interested eyes from elsewhere.

But there’s no place the Republic of Ireland international would rather be.

“I’m totally unsure on that,” Doherty, who signed a new long-term contract last week, told RTE. “There was no interest on my behalf to do that. We’re seventh in the Premier League right now.

Wolves lead the way

Wolves are the FAVOURITES to sign Benfica wonderkid Joao Felix.

Benfica's midfielder Joao Felix

Nuno Espirito Santo's side have been linked with a massive summer move for the player being touted as the new ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’.

They aren't on their own though, Liverpool, Manchester United, PSG and Arsenal are also among the teams interested in his signature.

Bookmakers have sensationally pegged Wolves as the favourites to snap him up in a deal that would have to meet his €120million buyout clause.

Agent responds

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with Ramadan Sobhi in recent days – and the winger’s agent has been speaking about his future.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Al Ahly after joining the Egyptian side on loan in January from Huddersfield Town.

He only signed for the Terriers in the summer and made just four appearances in the Premier League in the first half of the campaign.

But Sobhi has shone since joining Al Ahly, with the Cairo-based side having won eight of the 10 matches he’s played since his arrival.

His deal there is due to expire at the end of the season and his agent Nader Shawky refused to be drawn in on any speculation linking him with Wolves or what the summer may hold.

Romain's time

Romain Saiss has signed a new contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The midfielder has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at Molineux Saiss, becoming the latest player to commit to Wolves after captain Conor Coady and wing-back Matt Doherty both secured new deals last week.

Saiss played a vital role in the 1-0 win over Bristol City on Sunday which handed Wolves a home tie against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter final.

Saiss, 28, was a mainstay in Wolves’ starting XI in the Championship last season, though he’s been used sparingly by Nuno Espirito Santo in the Premier League.
