Monk on the EFL

Garry Monk has called for ‘normality’ to be restored once Birmingham City’s fate is decided by an EFL Disciplinary Panel.

That is due to sit by the end of February when Blues will learn their punishment for alleged breaches of the league’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

There has been much talk of a points deduction, though no clarity as to when that would apply.

But for Monk the key is having a clean slate in the summer and being able to operate with a free hand in the transfer window.

Asked about the current situation the Blues boss said: “Like you guys I have heard there is supposed to be a meeting in the next couple of weeks - of course that’s the important one.

Which way to go against Rovers?

Birmingham City are back to Championship action on Saturday after a short FA Cup-related hiatus.

Bristol City's appointment with Wolves meant Blues were afforded a free weekend - and 11 days in which to prepare for the arrival of Blackburn Rovers.

Among those preparations Garry Monk will have been pondering his set-up and personnel following the 1-0 defeat to Bolton.

For once the Blues boss has a relative wealth of options, at least compared to times this season when he could barely muster a senior match-day squad.

Kerim Mrabti's promising start, David Davis and Isaac Vassell's return to fitness and Kristian Pedersen's availability have given Monk something to think about.

But which XI should he put out against Rovers? Our writers give their thoughts.
