Birmingham City have been linked with a move for left back Alberto Redondo, according to reports.

Website Footmercato claim Blues are interested in signing the 22-year-old who was released by Getafe at the end of last season.

While the window for loans and full transfers has shut clubs are still able to sign free agents - which Redondo is having made just one La Liga appearance for the Madrid-based outfit.

He was out of contract at the end of last term and according to Get Football News France - rejected a three year deal to stay with Getafe.

He remains unsigned and was linked with Lille and St Etienne earlier this summer - but has more recently been connected with two of Blues’ Championship rivals.

Indeed Footmercato say he is close to signing with QPR - having claimed he first held talks with the London outfit and Charlton Athletic last month. They also credit Nimes and Brest with an interest.

Blues are currently well-stocked at left back with Kristian Pedersen having started the last two games in that role.

Steve Seddon has also played left-wing back, when Blues won at Brentford with a three-man defence.

Maxime Colin and injured duo Cheick Keita and Jonathan Grounds are also options in that position, although Keita could well leave before the closure of the transfer window in countries like France, Spain and Italy.
