"Feeling wanted".

Those are the two words that leave Tyrone Mings convinced he made the right choice to sign for Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

Mings arrived on deadline day from Bournemouth in a loan deal lasting until the end of the season.

But there were other clubs interested in taking the defender from the Premier League side including West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest.

Mings has nailed down a starting spot since making the move and helped Dean Smith’s men to stage an assault on the play-offs following a run of four straight victories.

He admits that going out on loan was a risk, telling the Telegraph: “This loan is massive for me. I don’t think I could underestimate how big it is and how big a decision it was to choose where to go because everything had to click immediately.

“The aim is obviously to make the play-offs, but coming here and playing games, and feeling wanted was so important.

“Personally, it was a big choice and I 100 percent believe I made the right one.”

Mings has struck up a formidable partnership with fellow loanee Kortney Hause in the middle of defence which has seen Villa concede just one goal in March.

The 26-year-old is also set to equal the amount of league starts - ten - he has made in almost four years for Bournemouth when Villa face Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

Smith's side could rise to fifth place depending on results elsewhere.

Villa have no option to sign him permanently in the summer, but do have an agreement with the Cherries which allows them to match any bids from elsewhere when the next window opens.
