Alabama has ranked among the top states that are most dependent on the federal government.

Alabama has ranked among the top states that are most dependent on the federal government.

That’s according to a recent study from financial technology company SmartAsset that analyzed the federal share of state government revenue, the ratio of federal funding to income taxes paid, the percentage of local workers employed by the federal government and the ratio of federal wage to private sector wage in all 50 states.

Alabama ranked third among those 50 states with 36.47% federal share of state government revenue.

Alabama’s highest ranking is for the ratio of federal government workers earnings to private workers, where it comes in fourth with a ratio of 2.09. Alabama places 10th highest for its ratio of federal funding to income tax at 0.88 and 11th highest for its percentage of workers employed by the federal government at 3.10%.

New Mexico ranked as the most dependent state, and Minnesota and Connecticut tied for least dependent.
