The West Valley project is the largest such health center built so far by Banner Health.

Banner Health is set to break ground this week on its newest health center project in northwest Glendale.

Leaders from Banner Health, its developer partner NexCore Group, Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers and other government, community and business leaders will attend a ground-breaking ceremony on Jan. 29. Phoenix-based architecture firm SmithGroup designed the building, to be located at 7701 W. Aspera Blvd.

NexCore and Banner Health are expected to invest $53 million to build the facility.

Banner Health has 28 acute care hospitals in six states, making it one of the nation’s largest health systems. It is the largest health system in Arizona and the state’s largest private employer and nonprofit organization, according to Business Journal research.

Banner Health contracted Phoenix-based Haydon Building Corp. to construct the facility, which will be the hospital’s largest health center built to date.

The health center, at 128,000 square feet, will have 128 exam rooms and 13 imaging rooms. It will be two to three times larger than Banner’s second-largest health center, located in Peoria.

The health center will employ 215 health care professionals including 47 physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. The center is expected to be completed spring 2021.

Primary care will include family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. Specialties will be cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, psychiatry, obstetrics, gynecology, orthopedics and vascular treatment.

Construction highlights of the project include:

  • 2,956 cubic yards of poured concrete
  • 12,000 feet of HVAC duct
  • 662 tons of steel
  • 10,000 feet of sewer pipe.
