Readers are telling us what they think Wichita needs to be a better city.

What does Wichita need?

Here's your chance to let us, and Wichita leaders, know what you think.

That's the question we have posed in our Business Pulse Survey series, and readers are responding.

Here are some of their responses:

  • High paying jobs!
  • A top-class performing arts center to support the top-class music theatre and symphony we have established here.
  • Highway access connecting the suburbs to each other and then to the main hub: Andover to Derby, and Maize to Goddard. Development naturally occurs where there is easy connecting access.
  • Most companies don't look at the talent within the city. They want you to have 10 years experience, and in addition to a degree, for even a low management position. Many people I know are highly qualified for positions and constantly get rejected, only to look outside of Wichita and get hired in another city with a better position. The good ol' boy network here is still a problem. I believe networks can help, but it almost has become too exclusive. Thus, many people leave.
  • Equal pay for women, an embracing and celebrating of diversity and a hipper persona.
  • Driving range.
  • A downtown grocery store.
  • There is nothing to do in Wichita. It's getting better but not there.
  • The Sedgwick County Zoo needs an aquarium.
  • Low cost attractions and entertainment options for families. The "Gathering Place‚" in Tulsa looks phenomenal; would love to have something like that here!
  • We have jobs. Confidence, but we're getting it back!
  • Higher wages for seasoned employees trying to grow their career here and employers actively seeking interns to work for them long before they graduate to keep the new talent here.
  • Downtown livability, being able to live and work downtown. Must include access to groceries downtown.
