The Eagles’ Slow Starts May Quickly End Their Season - The Ringer
If any metric can capture the drop-off between the Eagles’ Super Bowl squad in 2017 and the Eagles the past two years, it’s their slow starts. This year’s Eagles have been behind at halftime five times, more than they were during their entire 19-game Super Bowl run in 2017. That year, the Eagles led the league in first-quarter score differential and were second to the Patriots in halftime score differential. In 2018, they ranked 22nd and 18th, respectively. This year is even worse, as the Eagles rank 26th in first-quarter score differential and 25th in halftime score margin. That was before this Cowboys shellacking.

Howard Eskin claims Alshon Jeffery made the anonymous comments about the Eagles - BGN
People are still trying to figure out who the anonymous source was last week who second-guessed the Eagles offense. Howard Eskin went on SportsRadio 94WIP on Monday morning and claimed Alshon Jeffery was the source.

At the Podium: Pressing For Perfection & Falling Short - BGN Radio
John Stolnis details the Eagles recent struggles and a potential path to success along with analyzing Carson Wentz’s recent outings PLUS three press conferences including the post-game chats with Pederson & Wentz, followed by Pederson from Monday. Powered by SB Nation and Bleeding Green Nation.

How many leaks does it take to sink the Eagles? We’re about to find out. - PhillyVoice
This comes nearly 10 months after PhillyVoice published a report citing several team sources that had a problem with Wentz and his leadership abilities inside the locker room. The Eagles don’t just have a leak. At this point, they appear to be hemorrhaging confidential information at a rate that will sink this team if it isn’t stopped. And on Monday, a day after that embarrassing loss to Dallas, the situation seemed to reach a breaking point.

Man in the Mirror Time - Iggles Blitz
One of the keys to all of this is looking both short and long term. If the Eagles use resources to add players, they’ll be hurting the upcoming draft. Can you afford to do that with an older team that needs young talent? Of course, Roseman needs to answer for why the team isn’t getting more out of the last couple of draft classes. You need to be patient with young players, but you also need to be honest. This isn’t the time to be a cheerleader. I don’t know what to make of this team right now. I still like a lot of the pieces and I think DeSean’s return will help a lot. But the team has been disappointing overall and that’s beyond the absence of one or two players. I do think the Eagles ought to consider a youth movement. Put Darren Sproles on IR. Give his time to Boston Scott, who has flashed the last two weeks. Cut Vinny Curry. Play Josh Sweat and Daeshon Hall as your backup DEs. Sign a young DT to fill the spot. Cut Andrew Sendejo and give his spot to Avonte Maddox. Hopefully Cre’Von LeBlanc will return and he can replace Orlando Scandrick.

It only takes one win to turn a season around - PE.com
And, please, understand this: This season can be saved. It only takes one. ”People will say what they are going to say. Let people do what they are going to do. We still have nine games left. It is all about us,” defensive end Brandon Graham said. “This one is going to sting, but how are we going to respond? I have seen this show before. We have to take our L sometimes, but how are we going to respond? We have Buffalo next week. How are we going to come to practice on Wednesday? How are we going to do this thing? That is the next step. I am all about the next step. What happened, happened.”

The Day After: Plenty of blame to go around after Eagles’ Dallas dismantling - The Athletic
It is an ugly state of affairs for an Eagles team with a disappointing 3-4 record, and there is plenty of blame to go around. The players are not performing anywhere near their ability level. The coaching staff is not putting those players in enough advantageous positions. And two years of short-sighted personnel moves have left the coaching staff with a roster bereft of difference-making talent.

Here’s what Eagles legend Tra Thomas thought of Andre Dillard’s first start vs. Dallas Cowboys | Q&A with former Pro Bowl left tackle - NJ.com
“He needs to be firmer. To me, he seems a little light. He probably plays at around 310, 315, and the weakness of a vertical set is the bull rush. And one of the things that he has to learn how to do is sink his hips right away. When he gave up the one sack that he gave up, it was from a bull rush and it was just because he was walking the guy back. He took the blow instead of shooting his hands and sinking his hips. We were always taught to use the hop technique. So when you hop, it allows you to sink your hips and it kind of stops that defender’s momentum versus if you’re walking it back. The bull rush, if you start walking, he’ll just walk you right back into the quarterback. You never really sink your hips to stop the momentum.”

’Man up!’ Rex Ryan tore into Doug Pederson after brutal loss to Cowboys - NBCSP
“Doug Pederson set the tone for the whole game,” Ryan said. “You see the Cowboys’ take on it, ‘hey, he guaranteed it.’ You know what he did? He backed down on what he said. In his locker room, whether he said it or not, you put in there that you really don’t believe it. To me, man, pull a Buddy Ryan. If you’re gonna say it, double down. My dad would have doubled down and he would have beat Dallas, like he always did.” ”I get it, you won a Super Bowl and all that. Coach Frank Reich might have had something to do with that also. You’re a legend. I’m just telling you right now, man up. Philly wants you to say, ‘I’m going to beat Dallas’ and go out and do it. Now he whimpers away. I lost some respect there.”

Lamar Jackson Is Quickly Becoming the NFL’s Must-See Quarterback - MMQB
What’s ailed the Eagles? They need help in the secondary, and the offensive line hasn’t lived up to expectations, either. The former has been well-publicized (and likely to be addressed with an outside addition or two), the latter not as much (that one will like be handled internally).

Eagles steal intriguing rookie DT Anthony Rush off Raiders practice squad - Silver And Black Pride
Rush was a dominant force on the defensive line in the preseason, but instead of giving him a shot, the Raiders signed veteran defensive tackle Corey Liuget instead. Liuget was inactive due to injury the first three games of the season and has rotated in the past three games collecting 3 combined tackles and one QB hit. Standing out in camp is one thing. But the thing about players who shine in preseason is every other team gets a good look at them too. Rush was impressive enough that you figured it was only a matter of time before either the Raiders called him up or another team stole him away. It would have required an injury for the Raiders to make that move and their interior defensive line has been relatively healthy this season. So, Rush is headed to Philly instead.

Opinion: A 5-1 Buffalo Bills team should feel better than this - Buffalo Rumblings
Whatever Buffalo Bills fans thought being 5-1 would feel like, it doesn’t feel exactly like that. It’s less savory than expected. No one knew at the beginning of the 2019 season that the AFC would be such a top- and bottom-heavy conference. Only four AFC teams currently sit within one game in either direction of .500. That feels odd, although it may not be (I’m not digging through the record books to find previous years’ Week 7 standings). The point is it’s hard to know who you are in comparison of those around you if they’re all bad.

5 takeaways from the Ravens 30-16 victory over the Seahawks - Baltimore Beatdown
In the absence of Patrick Onwuasor, linebacker L.J. Fort drew his second consecutive start and was all over the field. Fort, playing alongside the steady Josh Bynes, recorded ___ tackles. Fort, Bynes, Brandon Williams and others were instrumental in slowing down RB Chris Carson. SS Chuck Clark also put together another strong performance, playing well in coverage and effectively relaying the play calls once again. Marlon Humphrey bounced back after a slow start, Brandon Carr was generally solid and the presence of Earl Thomas III really made everything listed above work.

Dak Prescott isn’t the only impending Cowboys free agent with contract talks at a stalemate - CBS Sports
Much has been made of the stalemate between the Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott since owner Jerry Jones famously declared that a deal was “imminent” more than a month ago. However, it is not the only lingering contractual situation that appears to be going nowhere at this point. The Cowboys have made no progress with star corner Byron Jones on a new deal, sources said, and talks with receiver Amari Cooper have gained no traction, either, with his departure in 2020 becoming increasingly likely. The team originally figured that Jones would be the prime candidate for a 2020 franchise tag (potentially tagged as a safety, at a lower figure than corner, given Jones spent the first few years of his career as a safety). But with Prescott’s demands going beyond the massive deal the Cowboys have extended, Dallas may need to use the tag on the quarterback in 2020 at this point.

Miami Dolphins: What it was like for Ryan Lewis to start at CB four days after arriving - Palm Beach Post
This is Ryan Lewis’ third year in the NFL and he’s already been signed by Arizona, New England and Indianapolis, played briefly for Buffalo and signed by Philadelphia and most recently, Miami. On Sunday, four days after his first Dolphins practice, Lewis started at cornerback against his former team, the Bills. It’s safe to say he knew more players on the opposing sideline. “That’s how it goes when you’re in this business,” Lewis said after Miami’s 31-21 loss. “A lot of people don’t know how fast the league works. You can get picked up, signed off the street and you could be in the game right there. A normal day in the NFL.” About three hours before kickoff, Lewis was informed he’d be starting for Pro Bowler Xavien Howard. No pressure there.

11 winners from Week 7 of the 2019 NFL season - SB Nation
Week 7 of the 2019 season didn’t change much at the top or bottom of the NFL. The Dolphins and Bengals, despite flashes of competence, remained winless. The 49ers overcame a downpour to outlast Washington and stay undefeated, while the Patriots are 9.5-point favorites in their Monday night matchup against the Jets. The creamy middle of the league, however, remains tumultuous. The Colts climbed to the top of the AFC South by beating the Texans. The Chiefs offered both the Raiders and Chargers a shot at their spot atop the AFC West following Patrick Mahomes’ knee injury, only for both to fall short on Sunday. The Saints embarrassed the Bears’ offense in a game that, somehow, made Chicago pine for the good ol’ days of Jay Cutler. So who won the week after an action packed Sunday? Winners, as always, aren’t just for those who finished the game with more points than the other guys. True victory can escape the boundaries of box scores, just like it did for a handful of talented teams and players this Sunday.
