Some different attractions are coming to this year’s St Catherine’s Hospice family fun day.

The annual Yellow Day garden fête fundraiser is known for stalls, music and dancing, food, fairground rides and garden games.

This year’s event, which takes place on Sunday 23 June, will see the addition of crazy golf, a slime station, and a penalty shoot-out hosted by players from Blackburn Rovers. There will also be the chance to meet birds of prey and find out about bee-keeping.

Local performers will provide entertainment throughout the day. There will be a bar and food on offer from The Mill Outside, the catering service of the charity’s onsite café, The Mill. Stalls will be selling bargains from the charity’s clothing and book shops.

The sponsored firewalk challenge will once again take centre stage, with people braving the heat in front of cheering crowds. Also returning will be children’s characters including Star Wars Stormtroopers.

The event raises funds for St Catherine’s Hospice, which provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care for local people affected by life-shortening illnesses.

It’s also a chance to honour the memory of loved ones – whether they received care from St Catherine’s or not – through the Yellow Ribbon Tribute, which will see the hospice grounds decorated with hundreds of yellow ribbons.

Emma Jacovelli, head of community engagement at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “There really is something for the whole family to enjoy and we’re looking forward to welcoming our wonderful supporters into our gorgeous grounds to enjoy a great day out with St Catherine’s.

“The atmosphere is fantastic and there’s such a brilliant variety of attractions and activities to keep visitors entertained for the whole day.

“The Firewalk is one of the highlights, as people of all ages conquer the coals to raise vital funds for our important work. And of course the gardens look all the more beautiful in the summer months as people’s poignant yellow ribbon tributes bring a burst of colour to St Catherine’s Park.”

A free park and ride shuttle bus service will be available from the Leyland Trucks car park off Croston Road. Parking on site is restricted to disabled guests and patient visitors during the event. The main entrance to the hospice will be closed with access available from St Catherine’s Way off Todd Lane South.

Yellow Day will take place in the grounds of St Catherine’s Hospice on Sunday 23 June from 11am to 4pm.
